The Future Arrived Already
As everyone knows, the 'Metaverse' is a bust. It was a dumb pandemicky kinda idea borne of the lack of ability of folks to go out and socialize as normal for quite some time. And its death before it lived has claimed the Facebook / Meta Platforms stock price as its quarry, amongst other collateral damage.
Just like the Internet in 2000.
Also m-commerce, which died around 2003. All that stuff you buy on your phone these days, don't know what that is, but it's definitely not m-commerce.
The Metaverse is alive and well and growing quietly. Just as crypto is witnessing the beatniks, hippies, squatters and hucksters being evicted from the building so that the suits can move in - so too is the Metaverse.
The challenge with new market opportunities is that it is very hard to call the winners this early in the evolutionary cycle. For matters Metaverse we can say that Nvidia NVDA 7.22%↑ and AMD 2.36%↑ and likely Micron MU -1.20%↓ and perhaps Marvell MRVL 1.26%↑ are winners for the simple reason that the compute, storage and real-time memory requirements of Metaverse applications are order-of-magnitude greater than flat internet apps. But the specific Metaverse app providers - which will win? Harder to say. Meta Platforms META -0.64%↓ ? Maybe, though the stock price recovery has more to do with the resilience of ad spend into a supposed recession than it does to do with virtual Zuck finding his e-legs.
We have an eye on Matterport MTTR 1.74%↑ because it is a real company focused purely on a real-world Metaverse application which is the digitization of real estate. It has become something of a vertical market standard in the real estate world. Want to visualize residential or commercial property remotely? You need a Matterport digital twin of the building.
